In today’s image conscious society, it is very common to have issues with food and how we look. We are given a message that says the thinner, more attractive and richer we are the happier we will be. This is a very seductive message and can lead to many diets and attempts at controlling how we look. If this fails, research shows diets don’t usually last long term, we can feel ashamed, humiliated and greedy.
This can lead to a succession of diets and a cycle of misery each time we don’t keep the weight off. This is just one eating issue. Food can also be used to control others. This is usually done without realising it but some people become physically big to keep others away. Others can punish themselves or others by not eating. The list can go on and on and eating issues can be very complex and deep seated. I have worked with many people with eating disorders or body image issues. I like to work in a way that means we can get to the root of what is happening. It is important to get to the root of the problem so a long-term solution can be found. This can break the spiral of unhappiness and fear and lead to a more balanced way of living.
